Kitten cruelty in the market place

Left to die in a plastic bag

Left to die in a plastic bag

There is a wonderful cat friend in Wororot market. For many years Khun Dow has been rescuing cats from the dreadful cruelty inflicted on cats there. Poison is regularly put down at night to kill rats and cats.  If kittens are found they are dumped in the big trash bins and left to die. It’s a sad fact that in some places, cats are just regarded as vermin and treated accordingly. Khun Dow has re-homed more than 30 cats and kittens, she’s had some cats sterilised and has taken a dozen to her home.

As Wororot is a regular dumping ground for unwanted cats and kittens, she often wonders what will be waiting for her at work each day. One morning there was a plastic bag waiting for her.  Untying it, she was shocked to see three kittens inside.  They were about a month old and didn’t look good at all.  ( 920 Views)

A kinder option to ‘just feeding’ stray cats and dogs

Written by admin. Posted in Activities, Dog and Cat Rescue Story

As an animal lover, I know it’s very tempting to feed street cats and dogs. Sometime, especially when you’re travelling,  it’s all you can do, and the cat or dog obviously benefits from this! But if you’re staying in Chiang Mai a while, or you live here, we may have a better option for you.

We can help organise sterilisation and vaccination which will give the cat or dog a really good chance of a longer healthier life. Please help us to make a real difference to the problem of over population

Feeding at Wat Pa Dara Phirom, Mae Rim

Feeding at Wat Pa Dara Phirom, Mae Rim

On holiday here and visiting Wat Pa Dara Phirom in Mae Rim, a lady was shocked at the state of the cats there, dozens of them, some obviously pregnant, some obviously sick and lots of kittens in various states of health, both good and bad.

The nuns at this temple just 8 km from Chiang Mai city certainly had their work cut out trying to care for them. (Photo left taken 6 months later, after care & good food)  There was so much to do..  ( 2213 Views)

Dogs getting the help they need

While out in the local market Fon noticed a donation box on a market stall.  She discovered that Khun Weang was collecting money to care for dogs at a remote Temple 14km outside the city. Khun Weang had approached a vet who agreed to go out and give the dogs vaccine but would charge 300baht for the trip. Fon decided to visit the Temple to see what was needed there.

Sick mommy cat & kitten need help

Sick mommy cat & kitten need help

Wat Doi Tam has about 40 cats and kittens and the numbers are growing. There are at least 5 pregnant females, and although many kittens don’t survive, the cat population will continue to grow if we don’t do something about it. Because the cats aren’t vaccinated they often get sick and die, causing terrible unnecessary suffering.

The monks at the quiet temple 12km south of Chiang Mai city love their cats and contacted Santisook for help..
