Abandoned pet dogs in Lamphun – catching the dogs

Written by admin. Posted in Dog and Cat Rescue Story

We got an early start in Lamphun with Kn Dip from The ARK on hand to blow dart the shyest dogs. As it turned out, not one dogs came willingly. They all knew something was up and we played a very long winded game of hide and seek in the 90 degree heat. Hours passed and we ended up with 15 out of the 22 safely transferred to the temporary shelter. The guys will go back tomorrow for the remaining 7. We are urgently appealing for donations for this emergency rescue project. Donate info on our website: http://www.santisookdogsandcats.org/en/donation/

URGENT HELP NEEDED FOR ABANDONED PETS ~ Six months ago, the owner of these dogs died. The man, a pig farmer, had cared for his dogs at the farm for ten years. But with his death, the dogs were left to fend for themselves.
The owner of the land has now threatened to poison all of the dogs unless they are removed immediately. We need donations urgently for medical care and to build a temporary shelter. — ใน Amphoe Muang Lamphun, Lamphun

Abandoned pet dogs in Lamphun

Six months ago, the owner of these dogs died. The man, a pig farmer, had cared for his dogs at the farm for ten years. But with his death, his 31 dogs were left to fend for themselves. People from a nearby shop started to feed them, but the water was disconnected and in the heat, many of the dogs became dehydrated and sick. Seven dogs died from drinking water from nearby rice fields (the water is poisoned to kill snails) Two more died the day after our first visit, too weak to respond to treatment..  ( 1556 Views)

Karen hill tribe dog sterilisation project with GVI

Written by admin. Posted in Dog and Cat Rescue Story

After a four hour drive, the second half through remote mountain terrain, we arrived at Huay Pakoot village in Mae Chaem, Northern Thailand. This is a small Karen hill tribe farming community where corn and pigs are raised. There seem to be piglets everywhere! There are also approximately 50 dogs, countless cats and five elephants with their mahouts.

It’s also home to several GVI volunteers engaged in elephant conservation studies here.  Earlier this year a run of sick puppies caused concern from the village chief, the community and GVI volunteers and staff. They were worried that the sickness would spread.  GVI looked into it and contacted Santisook dog and cat rescue.  ( 8434 Views)
