Boon Kam was missing from his home area for over a month. When he returned, he had a deep chop wound across his face and his left eye was missing. Boon Kam is a street cat, but an old man used to feed him most days. Unable to afford vet bills, the old man treated the wound himself for more than two weeks.
Eventually, Boon Kam’s photo turned up on Facebook, and people started asking about him.The story gets very complicated and I haven’t been able to get back to the original posting, but a student from Chiang Mai university saw the facebook posting and found a sponsor, a Dr from Bangkok who said she would pay medical expenses. Khun Thanthip saw his photo on facebook at the same time and took the action that got him to a vet.
The vet was amazed he had survived so long with a such a deep wound which went through his skull to the roof of his mouth, destroying his left eye. He needed 12 stitches. He spent two weeks in the clinic recovering from major surgery, and is now continuing his recovery at our Cat Shelter. Amazingly, he is one of the friendliest cats we’ve ever met and just loves company.
I haven’t been able to unravel the full story, but it shows what can happen when people ‘do their bit’. A Big Thank You to whoever first posted his photo, and thank you to everyone else who played a part in Boon Kam’s rescue! I’ve been told that “Boon Kam” roughly translated means “More than Lucky!” He certainly is..
